About the Author: Hugh John Lofting (1886–1947), an English American writer with a civil engineering background, is best known for creating the beloved character Doctor Dolittle in classic children's literature. Serving in World War I with the Irish Guards regiment, Lofting chose to write imaginative letters to his children instead of depicting war's brutality. These letters became the foundation for the immensely popular Doctor Dolittle series, which achieved classic status in children's literature. The first book, "The Story of Doctor Dolittle," published in 1920, became an instant success. Lofting's other works, including "The Story of Mrs. Tubbs," "Porridge Poetry," and "Noisy Nora," were also well-received by young readers.
